Introductory Outline Of The Big Blast Theory

The big blast theory proposes that in the solar systems recent past, within the past 100 million years (and possibly within the past 100,000 years) a giant explosion erupted from the face of the sun which has shaped certain characteristics of the solar system as we now see it.

This explosion was most likely a superflare (or sequence of superflares) but could have been as large as a mini nova-like outburst from the sun.

The blast from the sun is theorized to explain:

  • The formation of comets
  • The formation of the asteroid belt
  • The formation of the Kuiper belt
  • The removal of Mars’ and Venus’ oceans
  • The removal of Mars’ (and other planets) atmospheres and magnetospheres
  • A large number of other solar system oddities
